Author of "Centered Self, Centered Horse"
Erica K. Frei
With her first book published at the age of 23, Erica may seem like an overachiever when it comes to her involvement in horses. Under all of her achievements, however, she is driven by an insurmountable passion for working with these amazing creatures.
Coming from a background of Natural Horsemanship at a young age, Erica found a natural interest in Dressage. Disappointed with having found little sensibility in the effectiveness of communicating using traditional Dressage methods she turned towards studying French Classical Dressage in Washington with Craig P. Stevens.
Over the years Erica has also put on trick training demonstrations and has been involved in breed exhibitions. She has successfully competed in english and western events at the open, regional and national level. Erica has also served as an "Ask A Trainer" panelist for an online gaited horse community.
Teaching
As a teacher and instructor, Erica seems to shine. She loves interacting with each of her students. With her interest and experience in so many different areas she is capable of bringing about a level of clarity in communicating new concepts and ideas to her students that is unique to horsemanship.
Erica works individually with students on every level from beginning seat lessons to build balance and coordination, to refining the collected movements. Erica also offers workshops and clinics at her farm in Wisconsin and various other locations throughout the US.
Learning
The best teachers learn something new every day, a mantra Erica lives by. Fed by a constant hunger for information, it is common to see Erica deeply involved in a book about, seemingly, the furthest thing from horses and riding. Somehow she brings that new information into her teaching every day.
Erica is also a Nationally Board Certified Massage Therapist and Neuro-Muscular Therapist. Her understanding of the physical development and structure of the body helps her offer her students guidance in reducing injuries, improving their strength and flexibility, and aids in the physical development of her horses.
She enjoys long-distance trail rides, singing while she works, breaking into random freestyle dance, and silly humor. She is owned by 9 wonderful horses, two dogs and a cat named Leroy Black & White.
Erica is author of the book, "Centered Self, Centered Horse; A Simple Guide to Horsemanship" which can be purchased through Awareness In Riding at our online store!
